MDA's expertise with geographic information systems spans many disciplines, scales and locales. From natural hazards and population forecasting to internet mapping, applications development, MDA has a complete line of GIS services. We also offer GIS education and training, as well as map conversion and digitization.
- Natural/Man-made Hazards
- MDA has developed ArcGIS models that synthesize the relationship of regional population increase, the value of sustaining agriculture, and natural hazards that threaten them.
- Population Forecasting
- MDA has developed ArcGIS models to forecast and map future settlement population density. The models also map population density change over time, identifying patterns of increase and decrease.
- Agriculture GIS
- MDA has GIS models to index the potential primeness of landscapes for agricultural use, to model farmland strategic value, and protect farmland.
- Hydrology
- MDA implemented a GIS program for the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection to model subwatershed surface runoff for current and future conditions in the Rock Creek Watershed.
- Food & Water Supply Modeling
- MDA has systems that assesses food and water balances at regional scales. MDA applies iterative process and flow models to map food and water supply, demand, and balance to identify chronic problem areas globally.
- Geology
- EarthSat Geology, now MDA, pioneered the use of remote sensing for geologic exploration in 1969. Since then MDA has completed hundreds of geologic projects for clients in the energy, engineering, water exploration, mining and environmental fields. The focus is a common-sense approach and cutting edge technology to meet our client’s individualized needs.
- Facilities Management
- MDA developed a GIS package for digital storage of multiple layers of geological, geochemical, structural, and geophysical datasets for the Naval Air Weapons Station.
- GIS Education & Training
- MDA provides custom GIS and remote sensing training for all levels of customer expertise. MDA has provided ArcGIS instructor and student training materials for Delta Systematics, Nigeria for petroleum experts.
- Internet Mapping
- MDA provides interactive web-based GIS map services through a dynamic mapping tool designed specifically for the web. These sites utilize raster imagery with vector GIS data at pinpoint accuracy to enhance practical mapping applications.

- MDA has developed advanced custom interface tools that extend the capabilities of ArcGIS.
- Map Digitization & Conversion
- MDA can rapidly and accurately register and convert hardcopy maps of all types to any digital GIS file format - from feature extraction to fully automated map scanning and vectorization.
