Task Orders

Up one level

Projects between the National Park Service - Alaska Support Office (NPS-AKSO) and MDA are tracked by Task Order.

Task 1 GAAR Landcover Classification
Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve Landcover Classification Project Preliminary Mapping Classes used in the Landcover Classification Project
Task 2 FirePro Field Data ArcView 3.x
Over the last 15 years, NPS-Alaska has assembled a large amount of vegetation information for NPS lands in Alaska through the FirePro field data collection program. The principle purpose for this data was to better understand and model fire ecology through quantification of the vegetation (fuels).
Task 3 Landform Physiography Map
Physiography has considerable influence on natural vegetation in GAAR. Although analysis of digital elevation models and derivatives such as slope and aspect contribute to quantifying this influence, geomorphology or landform is difficult to derive from automated image processing/GIS procedures. This combination of terrain and geologic parameters which define a landform can be more accurately delineated through expert image interpretation (satellite and aerial photo) together with existing topographic and geologic maps.
Task 4 Image Enhancements
("Wall Art")of Glacier Bay and Kenai Fjords. Landsat TM scenes of Glacier Bay and Kenai Fjords National Parks were spectrally enhanced to maximize vegetation discrimination.
Task 5 Denali Digitizing Project of Glacial Extents
Glaciers cover a large portion of Alaska National Parks, and Denali in particular.
Task 6 Surficial Geology - GAAR

Task 7 FirePro Field Data Viewer Project for All Parks

Task 8 Miscellaneous Programming Tasks
This task involves providing 40 hours of GIS/programming services to NPS-AKSO as needed.
Tasks 9 Denali SPOT Orthorectification
This project involved the orthorectification and block adjustment for eight SPOT Level 1A images for the Denali Soils/Veg Mapping Project. Maximum allowable error for the 1:63,360 registration was 2 pixels.
Tasks 10 Imagery Plots
This project is to produce plots of multispectral imagery (SPOT, TM and MSS) in the National Park Service Alaska Support Office (NPS-AKSO) archives. These will be custom enhanced to maximize vegetation discrimination.
Task 11 Automation of Statewide Surficial Geology Map of Alaska
This project was to automate the 1:1,586,000 surficial geology map for Alaska. This source map was compiled by Thor Karlstrom, USGS, 1964. The final product was a GIS compatible dataset consisting of topologically structured Arc/Info coverages (one line and one polygon coverage) representing the major surficial geology features found on the Karlstrom (1964) statewide Alaska surficial geology map.
Task 12 Denali National Park and Preserve Landcover Classification

Task 13 FirePro Field Data Entry
This project was to enter FirePro field data into NPS' standardized Access database format. This task was subcontracted to a botanist at the Alaska Natural Heritage Program to ensure correct transfer and interpretation of the detailed site and vegetation species information.
Task 14 Integration of Scanned Field Data forms into the Field Data Viewer Projects
This task is for the integration of scanned FirePro field forms into the Field Data Viewer Projects (Tasks 2 and 7).
